Friday 14th September 2012 sees the return of the PR industry’s most prestigious golf tournament (and, actually, it’s only golf tournament!). The 2nd SLD Invitational is being played again on the fabulous Herbert Fowler designed Red Course at The Berkshire, ranked at number 85 in the list of The Top 100 Golf Courses In The World (June 2010 issue of Golf World). It offers a unique assortment of holes in that it has six par 3s, six par 4s and, you probably guessed it, six par 5s.
The event is open to anyone working in the PR industry, agency or client side, who fancies meeting up with fellow PR professionals in a relaxed environment where good fun, a bit of friendly competition and a terrific lunch are the order of the day.
The SLD is played with full handicap allowance, using the Stableford scoring system and it boasts a team and individual competitive element. At breakfast, fourballs are drawn out the hat to play together, with the best two scores from four on each hole counting. Prizes fly about for all the winners, along with the customary abuse. The best individual score is awarded the coveted SLD Invitational trophy, won last year by Graham Goodkind of Frank PR with 35 points. There is also a prize for best-dressed golfer, which in 2011 was the very sartorial Matt Wood of The PR Shop. And then there are other assorted goodies for the longest drive and nearest the pin. Practically no one goes home empty-handed.
This year, proceedings start at 8am with breakfast and the draw. The tee off, from two tees (the 1st and 12th), will be at 9am. The golf should be finished by 1pm-ish, a quick shower, a cheeky drink in the bar and then The Berkshire Dining Room’s famous traditional carvery lunch should round things off very nicely, along with the prize-giving ceremony (accompanied by suitably inappropriate acceptance speeches).
The cost for everything is £150, which is amazing value for an even more amazing day out with even more amazing people. Amazing eh?!
