A day in the life of Will Hall, graduate trainee analyst providing insight and analytics services to technology and healthcare clients

My day

7.00am: Alarm goes off. I roll out of bed and take a shower.

7.30am: On the way to the tube station I check my RSS feeds, which saves time ahead of my morning reports.

8.30am: Our work day doesn’t start until 9.00am but I like to get in at about 8.30am. Arriving early allows me to take advantage of the free toast and fruit on offer! Our coffee machine is pretty fancy, so I head straight to it and grab a latte. I like to spend about 15 minutes each morning reading a paper, usually The Guardian.

9.00am: After checking my emails, I’m ready to start my day. I spend the first few hours preparing news coverage reports for several different clients. As a member of our insight and analytics team, I have both internal and external clients. They operate in a number of industries, but mostly healthcare and technology. This is my first job out of Uni, but after seven months I can say that I’ve settled into the swing of life in a big PR agency.

9.30am: My first report of the day involves touching base with our team in the Asia and Pacific region, over an ongoing daily monitoring report. I really enjoy working with colleagues across the globe as it’s great to gain an insight into how they work, and share a bit of banter, usually about football.

11.00am: Tea round. We take it in turns to make a tea, but I usually volunteer as it’s a nice break from my computer screen, and the kitchen is a good place to grab a chat with mates. Again, sport is usually high on the agenda.

1.00pm: By lunch I’ve delivered all the morning digital media reports due for my clients, so I head out to the park and grab a sandwich on the way, with fellow graduate trainees. There are three other graduate trainees in the London office, and we’re a pretty tight bunch, which is nice.

2.00pm: My afternoons are often flexible. I’ll usually be tasked with conducting research for influencer audits, or carrying out monthly social media reports using the various monitoring solutions we subscribe to. A big part of my job is staying on top of social media and new technologies, so I find time to scour the web for news too.

4.00pm: More tea. My turn again.

5.00pm: A quick call with our team in Portland to update them on another ongoing monitoring project.

6.00pm: I finish work around 6.00pm. I’ll spend a few minutes debating whether to go to the gym or the pub (with mates from work). There are plenty of opportunities for socialising and networking in London, and our office in Covent Garden is in a great location.

8.00pm: Grab dinner in town (I decided to go to the pub after all). Head home and watch a bit of TV.

11.00pm: Back to bed for some well-deserved beauty sleep, ready to start a new day.
