Where do the missing 15% go?

I was chatting to an MD of a top agency yesterday and she mentioned that their staff turnover rate was around 20%. This is obviously quite a bit but to be fair 20% seems to be about average for large London agencies. It was what she said next however that was most interesting. Apparently only 5% of those go to rival agencies or in house roles – the rest leave PR. Mmm. So where do they go and why do they leave? They might leave because they have just graduated and realise PR is not for them. Or perhaps they believe that they can earn more money elsewhere. Or perhaps the long hours and countless deadlines take their toll. But where do they all go? Many seem to end up working for PR recruitment consultants! But what about the rest? Teaching? The Army? Travelling? The Dole? I don’t know but we’d like to find out...
