Whilst our London office is a happy, democratic medium, where people spend their days alternating between Classic FM, Smooth and Radio 4, up in our Harrogate HQ there’s a constant battle over whether we listen to 6 Music or Radio 2 to get us through the day. When 6 Music gets a bit too screamy for our CEO, I plug my headphones in and get stuck into these tunes...
Blood on the Tracks – Bob Dylan
It’s an entire album so a bit of a cheat, but when you’re stressed and deadlines are looming there’s nothing like listening to Dylan’s voice to soothe you, get your head straight and plough through that pile of papers on your desk. Plus he writes sentences I can only dream of – a well deserved winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in my opinion!
Pomps and Pride – Toots and the Maytals
If this song doesn’t make you smile when you listen to it then I don’t know what will. Toots has incredible energy, infectious tunes and reminds me of happy student days.
Love Spreads – The Stone Roses
I’ve just bought my ticket for Glastonbury and I’m so excited to see the Stone Roses rumoured to headline so this is on my playlist at the moment. It also reminds me of the first piece I ever subbed – about the band selling out their 2012 Manchester gigs – when working as a journalist in London.
I think The La’s are one of the most under-rated bands out there – I love their album. Despite what it’s written about, There She Goes is so uplifting and instantly puts me in a good mood.
This is just my dancefloor song and I love it.
