Fuelling up for a day in PR

My day

After some exercise, tea and porridge, Laura Moss, executive director at agency The PR Office, is ready for a busy day of meetings and interviews

6.00am: My alarm goes off. A quick glance at my phone confirms it is indeed 6 am. That means one thing, it’s time for CrossFit. I put on my gym kit, grab my bag and I’m ready to kick-start my day.

7.45am: On the bus I check my emails and Twitter feed, start mentally preparing for the day ahead and jotting down a to-do list. Although, we know in the world of PR this could change within the hour!

8.15am: At the office. Exercise always leaves me feeling energised and ready for the day but a tea and big bowl of porridge is most definitely needed.

8.30am: It’s time for the team meeting, a chance to discuss some of the great client work happening in the agency as well as new business wins, of which we have two this week. We also have a quick chat about the major news stories of the day – today it is Brexit again…..and Euro 2016! One subject seems to get people more fired up than the other!!!

9.30am: We have a meeting with a prospective client at the end of the week and the prospective client wants us to present outline ideas for a profile-building campaign. The team has been working hard pulling together ideas that include social, event sponsorship and media and stakeholder engagement. It is a good session and a lively debate. We now have two strong ideas to present. Just a little tweaking and refining needed before the meeting.

11.30am: One of our clients has jetted in for one day from the Far East, as well as an account meeting we have organised a media briefing with the FT and two interviews – one with CNBC and one with CNN. I head out to the client’s London office to make sure he is fully prepared and briefed ahead of the interviews.

2.30pm: Account meeting and interviews over I grab a late lunch from a local Vietnamese restaurant; a PR Office favourite and head back to the office.

3.00pm: Back in the office I have a meeting with the senior team. It is review time and we need to check that everything is in order so that the process runs smoothly. We are also currently reviewing and developing our new business strategy and use some of the time to discuss where we are with this and agree next steps.

5.00pm: Back at my desk for the first time since this morning! I grab another cuppa, catch up on emails and have a quick chat with some of the team.

6.30pm: It’s time to head to the theatre; tonight a play at The National, but not before I get a call from a client telling me about a small project they want us to work on.
