Marketing & Communications Lead (FTC) - Plain Numbers

Hours and contract

Ideally 30 hours per week, but open to other options.

Fixed term for one year to cover maternity leave.

Location

Lewes, East Sussex. We offer flexible working, employees can work on a hybrid basis, ideally spending at least 2 days per week in our office. We currently hold face to face full team meetings once a week on Tuesdays.

About Plain Numbers

Plain Numbers is a young and fast-growing social purpose company. Established in 2020, our small, dynamic team are committed to growing our impact and delivering lasting change for the organisations we support and consumers.

We build long term partnerships with organisations. We give them tools and support to transform the way they communicate numbers so more customers can understand key information. This typically includes:

· Training – accrediting Plain Numbers Practitioners to improve communications and lead the application of our method within their organisation.

· Support – providing advice and practical guidance to the trained Practitioners on their communications work. Helping them to improve their customer’s understanding and raise awareness of our work in the wider organisation.

· Certification – specific communications which meet high standards of applying the Plain Numbers Method can be submitted for certification. If successful they will be able to display the Plain Numbers Mark.

· Community – access to exclusive events, content and knowledge sharing to support continued learning.

Overview of Main Duties

The Marketing and Communications Lead will build the brand, enhance engagement with future and current partners, and continue to promote Plain Numbers' reputation as leaders in improving customer understanding.

This is a key role that drives Plain Numbers marketing efforts, manages the content strategy and collaborates across teams to achieve companywide goals.

Key priorities include:

Content planning and production

· You will own all aspects of our content strategy and will lead on its implementation.

· Produce the monthly Plain Numbers Insights newsletter, including writing and commissioning pieces, tracking key metrics and increasing subscribers.

· Develop engaging content for the website, including news articles, case studies, and thought leadership pieces. Content formats include written, video and graphics.

· Create and manage LinkedIn posts for the company page and support key stakeholders with posts on their personal profiles to support our focus on establishing thought leadership and subject matter expertise.

· Work with the partnerships team and external collaborators to generate content.

· Track and analyse metrics to measure the impact of content pieces and refine plans accordingly.

Partnership support

· Actively engage with contacts in partner organisations to identify and execute co-marketing opportunities, such as case studies, testimonials and research.

· Build strong relationships with new partners to celebrate their Plain Numbers partnership.

· Collaborate with the partnerships team to identify and capitalise on communications opportunities.

· Support Plain Numbers Community events with both promoting and organising.

Brand awareness and development

· Develop and implement activities to enhance Plain Numbers' brand visibility and reputation.

· This includes identifying speaking opportunities, content sharing and opinion pieces, with relevant sector partners including trade associations and membership groups.

· Collaborate with the management team and the wider Plain Numbers team to incorporate marketing needs into overall company planning and strategy.

· Measure success through KPIs including engagement, followers, subscribers, views and downloads.

Website management

· Our website is a key business asset. You will ensure the website serves as a central hub for brand awareness, supporting engagement from potential and current partners and driving lead generation.

· Maintain and update the website, ensuring it aligns with brand standards and user needs.

· Lead website improvement projects, managing third parties, budgets, and timelines to deliver enhancements.

Webinar programme

· Plan and execute our series of external webinars.

· Develop content in collaboration with the management team and wider staff.

· Build a promotional plan to drive registrations and attendance, ensuring post-event reporting and follow-up.

· Work with the sales team to track webinar-generated leads and pipeline progress.

Capture and promote evidence of impact

· Case studies help us demonstrate evidence of impact and social proof.

· You will develop and maintain a portfolio of case studies, working with our partnerships team to engage partners in developing this content and then publishing evidence of impact across LinkedIn, the website, and email newsletter.

Person specification

You will be:

· Comfortable and confident with a mix of thinking, doing and stakeholder management; being responsible for strategy and delivery.

· Able to demonstrate high EQ, working with and advising colleagues including leadership, and our partners and stakeholders.

· A high agency colleague, capable of managing a varied workload without high levels of direction.

· Great with people and able to build strong relationships internally and externally.

· A project manager, able to combine creativity with execution and insight.

We do not expect the successful candidate to have any pre-existing knowledge of the Plain Numbers Method, but they should be keen to learn and capable of developing this knowledge.

Essential Skills and Experience

· B2B marketing in consultancy, L&D or related fields

· Prior experience in start-up or scale-up business

· Content planning, creation, execution and re-purposing

· LinkedIn for business and individual thought leadership

· Copywriting and editing

· Use of AI tools to support creativity / productivity / analysis

Desirable Skills and Experience

· Experience in account based marketing

· Using marketing automation to build lifecycles and journeys

· Landing page development

· Basic video production and editing

Benefits and Remuneration

This opportunity offers:

· A salary based on a full time equivalent salary of £36,750

· 25 days paid holiday per year (pro rata where relevant) plus Bank Holidays
