It’s Twitter at dawn for Calacus PR’s, senior consultant, Kate Brewer

My day

5.00am: No need for an alarm with a young child who is an early riser! Cartoons are on in the background, while I look through emails and my Twitter news feed.

8.00am: After a few hours of the usual morning madness, I’m at last at my desk and working from my home office for a few hours. Calacus PR has a great attitude to remote working, so I’m often working at home when meetings allow.

9.00am: After an hour digesting all the morning news, responding to overnight emails and working out my to-do list for the day, it is time to catch up with the rest of the Calacus PR team to discuss important actions for the day ahead.

10.00am: Time to dial in to a client conference call. While most clients are sports related, we also work with charities, including HEART UK, and The Cholesterol Charity. October is National Cholesterol Month, so it is a very busy time for us.

11.30am: Now time to head into town. I am meeting with David, our managing director, and we are interviewing for an apprentice PR to boost our junior team.

12.30pm: A quick sandwich for lunch while on the train to London Waterloo, before dashing across London to meet David at the Calacus office.

1.00pm: We interview two young guys looking for their first role in PR. While they both have many positive attributes, David and I feel that they aren’t quite right for Calacus, so the search for an apprentice goes on …

3.00pm: Time for another conference call with another of our clients, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Laureus is the official charity partner for the Vitality Run Series, and there is an important half marathon in just a few weeks. We are busy preparing press releases, press kits, social media messaging, and much more.

5.00pm: Time to leave London and get back home in time to pick up my son from childcare. The 30-minute train journey gives me time to catch up on emails that have come through during the afternoon.

7.00pm: After a few hours of “Mum time”, I log back on to go through e mails, eating dinner and catching up with my husband at the same time. Multi-tasking is easier said than done!

9.00pm: I’m off to Scotland tomorrow to work on the prestigious golf event, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. So it is time to pack! I’m really looking forward to going back to St Andrews, I’ve worked as a press officer on the event for nearly ten years now, and I love the tournament.

10.00pm: With the inevitable 5.00am wake up call, it is time for bed. I’m out like a light as soon as my head hits the pillow!
