Be A PR They Said

We’re loving this video meme of Cynthia Nixon’s Be A Lady They Said from Tin Man.

The video, released in homage to Cynthia Nixon’s viral video, reflects on often humorous feedback overheard from clients in PR.

Founder and CEO Mandy Sharp said: “As a company with an 80% female board, we are big fans of the Be A Lady They Said content and the important message it sends to society ahead of International Women’s Day.

“However, as well as striking a chord, the clever and impactful format inspired us and got us thinking about our own industry, particularly the humorous feedback we’ve heard over the years from both colleagues and industry friends… although not from our lovely clients, of course!”

And if you fancy printing it out and putting on your office wall, here’s the full text

Be a PR they said

Be a PR they said. Your deck is too short. Your deck is too long. Too many slides! Be top line. Don’t kill us by powerpoint. Show us how it works. Where is the detail?! Don’t be limited. We want blue-sky thinking. Think big. Not too big! Think outside of the box. Get inside our heads. Be current. Be relevant. Be ‘now’. Be timeless. Be targeted. Appeal to everyone. Be strategic. Be creative. Be bold. Not too wild!

Be a PR they said. There’s no set investment. We’ll find money for it. Budgets are tight. Your costs are too high. Your KPIs are too low. More lifestyle. Buzz on social. Where’s the traditional coverage? Less is more. Think quality. In-depth features. Where’s Mail Online? 1 billion impressions. Good start, we were hoping for more? Be a PR they said. Put the brand in the headline. More messaging. Less news. Get more coverage. Not that type of coverage! Where’s the branding? Put the logo on it.

It’s only got three brand mentions! Don’t be self-serving. Too promotional. Lengthen the quote! Live and breathe the brand. Use our tag line. Where’s the original thinking?

Be a PR they said. Be innovative. Float it down the Thames. Not too London centric! Make it viral. There’s no paid spend. Be more integrated. Think holistically. Be focused. Don’t spend too much time. Just a few fleshed-out ideas. Be strategic. Where are the insights? Cut to the point! Be more punchy. Be bold. Make an impact. Make it softer. Do a brand campaign. Where’s the product?

Be a PR they said. Add a pun. Cut the jargon. We’re flexible. I need it tomorrow. Don’t be too literal. Be clever. Be smart. Be better. Isn’t this too abstract? Challenge us. Push boundaries. Blaze a trail. Be provocative. Not like that, we’re a family brand! Be a PR they said.
