Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Communications Lead to own and drive all internal and external communications. This is a pivotal role that will strengthen our brand, protect our reputation, and build stakeholder engagement across defence, government, industry, and the public.
The ideal candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, ensuring our messaging reflects the innovative and unique nature of our technology and business strategy while aligning with the sensitivities of the defence and national security environment.
Responsibilities Will Include
- Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with business goals and defence sector priorities.
- Manage all media relations, acting as primary press contact and company spokesperson where appropriate.
- Lead content creation across channels, including press releases, white papers, blogs, and social media, with a focus on thought leadership and technical storytelling.
- Support executive communications and speechwriting for senior leaders.
- Work closely with business development, business intelligence, and product teams to align messaging across customer-facing functions.
- Handle sensitive and classified communication in accordance with MOD protocols and industry best practice.
- Manage brand and visual identity guidelines, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints.
- Monitor media coverage and industry trends, providing insights and advice to the leadership team.
- Oversee crisis communications planning and response.
Essential
Qualifications and Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in a senior communications role, ideally in the defence, aerospace, or high-tech sector.
- Proven track record of developing and delivering successful strategic communications plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience navigating complex stakeholder environments, including government, MOD, and international defence bodies.
- Ability to manage classified or sensitive information responsibly.
- Strong digital and social media acumen.
- Confidence in dealing with senior leadership, press, and external stakeholders.
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or related field.
Desirable
- Existing security clearance or ability to obtain UK security clearance.
- Experience in maritime, naval, or military technology domains.
- Familiarity with UK defence industrial base and relevant policy context.
Note: Due to the nature of work undertaken at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of the position, which would include as a minimum Existing right to live and work in the UK, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.*
