What we’re looking for
Someone who is excited about communications and making a difference to a growing organisation serving young people. You should have experience of developing brand recognition and the enthusiasm to seek out opportunities to promote the impact of our brand.
We are a small team with big ambitions, who are in a phase of substantial growth. You should be excited about working in a start-up environment where things can change quickly but where you have the opportunity to have a tremendous impact.
We exist to serve pupils from backgrounds that are under-represented in university mathematics, and believe that we do this better when our team includes people who are from these backgrounds themselves. If you consider yourself to be from a background where progressing to university mathematics is not the norm then we strongly encourage you to apply.
- This role is a full time post but we are willing to consider part-time.
- Application Closing Date: Thursday 19th September 12pm
- Interviews: Week commencing 23rd September
- Start date: Flexible
About Axiom Maths:
Axiom Maths is a registered education charity on a mission to make England and Wales a more productive and socially mobile country. Half of disadvantaged children who are high attainers in mathematics at eleven are no longer high attainers by age sixteen. That is a huge loss of human potential that affects both those children as individuals and us as a wider society. We are focused on stopping that loss.
We do this by finding children with mathematical potential, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and guide them along a path to mathematical excellence. We take a dual pronged approach: providing an in-school programme to improve their experience of maths, and tackling harmful views in society that stop children from feeling like maths is for them.
We are currently expanding our approach and developing our organisation to meet this mission over the next ten years.
About this role:
The Marketing and Communication Manager’s job is to build the Axiom Maths’ brand recognition with our target audiences (such as teachers, Heads of Maths, Headteachers etc) so that we can expand our reach to the pupils we seek to serve. You will do this by having a strategic vision for the brand, a fierce determination to represent it well, and by leading on the production of content that tells the Axiom Maths story.
This is a new role and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to build a game-changing brand, almost from scratch. You will be a strategic thinker, able to identify opportunities that will bring us the biggest impact and will work closely with the CEO and across the senior team to become the guardian of our brand.
The responsibilities of this role include:
Owning the Axiom Maths Brand, being responsible for how we appear to the outside world
- Being the go-to person in the wider team about how to represent Axiom Maths
- Working with our web developers to ensure our website is as high impact as possible
- Leading on social media strategy and implementation
- Ensuring we have appropriate collateral and merchandise for conferences, etc
Telling the Axiom Maths brand story
Lead on the content we produce and share to build our brand. This includes:
- Owning the content calendar, and ensuring we have a drumbeat of engaging content for our target audiences over the key points of the year
- Developing the package around each piece of content so that we can effectively communicate to all our audiences, such as presentations and social media graphics to share research findings
- Drafting press releases, blogs and opinion pieces
Supporting the wider team to represent and market our brand
This includes:
- Coordinating our presence at conferences and promotional events
- Designing simple collateral for external-facing use, such as flyers about our offer or graphics about our impact
- Maintaining the “voice” of Axiom Maths in written materials, for example by proof-reading or giving feedback on external-facing materials
- Working alongside the CEO to ensure our story is consistently ‘on message’
Project work
There will also be opportunities to develop shorter term projects outside of the BAU which contribute to our objectives and key results and support you to develop your experience further.
You should apply if you have:
- Excellent writing abilities
- Experience creating stories, narratives or brands that capture an audience’s attention
- Experience working with senior leaders
- A strategic mind that can think over a 12-month period, not just an individual “comms moment”
- Knowledge of effective social media use
- Ability to create content such as presentations, marketing documents, or graphics
It is desirable that you have:
- Experience building a brand, ideally for a new entrant or in a rebrand situation
- Enthusiasm to use emerging technology (such as AI) to work efficiently
- Adaptability to use project management tools (we use Notion) that are right for the job
You must have:
- The right to work in the UK
- Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check
- Commitment to equality of opportunity and the safeguarding and welfare of all students
- Willingness to undertake in-person and online training and development, both of knowledge and of skills
