Head of Brand Communications (9-12 Month FTC) - Sainsburys (In-house)

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Affairs, the Head of Brand Communications is responsible for the development and execution of the brand PR strategy ensuring all activity ladders up to the business’s strategic priorities. A key part of this role is communicating progress against the company’s sustainability plan, ensuring it ladders up to the brand promise of Helping Everyone Eat Better. Supporting the growth of Nectar and demonstrating the great value it offers customers will also be a priority.

A seasoned PR professional, you will develop and deliver ambitious and creative campaigns that create distinctiveness for the Sainsbury’s business and brands, adhering to the fewer, bigger, better approach.

You are responsible for working closely with the CR&S, strategy and marketing teams across the business and brands to ensure that you know all activity and milestones happening across the business that are either brand-led, enables us to deliver the growth of Nectar or are part of the CR&S strategy, ensuring that these are communicated to other parts of the external and internal communications teams so that content lands as campaigns across all relevant channels.

You will work closely with the Head of Product PR, Head of Internal Communications: Campaigns and the Head of Corporate Communications to ensure that all communications across the division are aligned. You will also work closely with the media relations team to identify and address potential issues.

This role is suited to an experienced communications professional with extensive corporate and consumer PR experience gained in a high-profile environment, in-house and/or agency side. You should have both strong line and team management experience and be someone who thrives in a fast paced and collaborative environment, with a genuine passion for media.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to face into difficult conversations and giving others licence to challenge your perspective
  • Strong understanding of sustainability communications and related issues as well as strong commercial acumen
  • Strong media contacts as well as strong knowledge of digital and social media
  • Highly organised – able to juggle and prioritise a busy agenda and action-orientated with high energy, pace, agility and pragmatism
  • Strong financial and analytical skills with specific experience managing large budgets
  • Excellent judgement and problem solving; developing solutions using experience and creativity with the ability to be bold and brave with creative
  • Ability to lead, enthuse and motivate a team and to influence at the most senior levels as well a proven ability to manage and motivate agencies to do a great job
  • Ability to embrace change and have clarity of thinking around the new strategy, principles and ways of working
