How Grayling Public Affairs helped a collection of hospital trusts achieve Academic Health Centre Status

Client:King’s Health Partners (KHP) is a collection of Hospital Trusts (including King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’) combined with the academic expertise of King’s College London.

Objective: They challenged Grayling to help them to achieve Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) status from the Department of Health.

Strategy: Grayling’s PR and Public Affairs teams worked with KHP to develop a cohesive strategy that incorporated the diverse operations of the individual institutions and then embarked upon a detailed plan of engagement with those identified as relevant decision-makers and influencers. In addition, Grayling created opportunities in the national and trade media to highlight KHP and the merits of their bid. We ensured that their key messages were communicated across Westminster, Whitehall and the media. We also assisted with the written submissions to the Department of Health.

Result: King's Health Partners achieved accreditation as an AHSC in 2009.
