Driving for Don

4th September 2013

Two men have just completed a near on 2,000 mile rally in a car costing just £200 to raise money for Cancer Research, in memory of PR Max Director, Don Clark. [caption id="attachment_3263" align="alignright" width="300"] 'Lightning McQueen'[/caption] Ian Hardy, 33 and Richard Dixon, 35, set off in Calais, stopping off in a number of places around Europe and finally ending in Valencia, Spain strapped into a 1995 ‘M’ registration Mondeo, transformed into a Disney character aptly named, ‘Lightning McQueen’. The challenge, called the Ramshackle Rally also included the chance to complete a circuit of Monaco’s famous F1 motor racing circuit. Unfortunately the long drive took its toll on the motor and the two men had to scrap the original plan of driving it back home from Valencia. This impressive journey was all in aid of raising money in memory of Don Clark, a well-known and a very well-liked figure, especially in the PR industry, where he spent the majority of his working life. Don sadly lost his short battle with bowl cancer just three days after his 43rd birthday and was said to have been keen to give something back to the people who helped him in his fight against cancer. The original target to raise was set at £1,000, but donations have already reached £1,500 and the figure is still rising. Don’s widow, Sharron Ashurst, said: “Don would have loved this challenge and would be very proud of it taking place in his name. Ian and Richard have put in a lot of hard work, buying an old banger and improving it, to look like Lightning McQueen, to take part in the challenge.” To sponsor the pair on their adventure, go to www.justgiving.com/drivingfordon
