It’s mainly home work today for Branch PR & Design’s Caroline Elvin
Date: 03 October 2012 10:17
7.00am: My deafening alarm rings and I have to get up, much to my disappointment. I am an awful, awful morning person! My boyfriend is quite the opposite, so watching him spring out of bed at 6.00am every morning is very frustrating indeed! I have a shower and eat my breakfast before getting completely ready. I'm working mainly from home today.
8.00am: By now, I have usually perked up a little bit, so I walk over to the local shop to pick up the daily papers. It's important to me to be able to know exactly what's going on in the industries of all of my clients on a day-to-day basis. When I get home, I head straight to my office (conveniently placed at the back of my house) and start reading through the papers, highlighting opportunities for my clients and sometimes, for myself.
9.00am: I start checking my emails; one of the many handy things about having an iPhone is that I can check my emails at any time of the day or night if I'm not in the office, meaning that my clients sometimes get random emails at 11.00pm saying 'I have an idea ...' – I don't know how people managed before the Smartphone era!
9.30am: I talk through some possible opportunities with my client, Charlie Wall, at the beginning of each day. She owns a number of bootcamps based in Cambridge. At the moment, we are arranging a quiz night for her to raise money for Headway Cambridgeshire, so the talks are usually based around that. Once we've finished speaking I begin to put our thoughts into action.
11.00am: I put all of the coverage I have been collating for a project at a local golf course into a nice, neat folder (presentation and organisation are both vital!) and head out the door. Our project is coming to an end now and we have a debrief meeting.
2pm: I'm back from a fantastic meeting and feeling positive. The golf course would like us to do a little more work – mainly building its Twitter and Facebook pages – something that I love doing, as I am a social media freak. I have my lunch and watch a little bit of television before starting work again –- there are fantastic perks to working from home.
2.30pm: I spend the rest of my day writing a press release for Altaimage, a printing company that has just launched some great new software. I finish by updating our Twitter and Facebook feeds and writing a blog post for our website.
6.00pm: I have dinner and head to yoga, since opening Branch, I've found that going to yoga helps to clear my mind from work-related thoughts – it's also great for your muscles if you're sitting in front of a computer all day. I come back and take my dog on a nice long walk and have dinner.
10.00pm: I try to read as much as possible, but most of the time I force my boyfriend to watch The Only Way Is Essex or Gossip Girl (I know, I know) I finally go to sleep at about 11.00pm, ready to see what the next day may bring.
