The European Beard and Moustache Championships should get brand backing
Date of webcast: 25 September 2012 10:13 GMT
This week Antics Roadshow has taken a break from writing up stunts that have been and instead I am simply offering a stunt that has yet to come (I hope).
In the small Alsatian town of Witterdorf in France, the annual occurrence that is the European Beard and Moustache Championships is set to take place soon
Now if you ask me, this is just one massive PR stunt waiting to happen. And I can’t work out for the life of me why no one has hi-jacked this particular affair for their own grubby PR purposes.
For those unfamiliar with the goings on (though I suspect that you could probably figure it out pretty quickly), here they are in all their glory.
As someone who has done their fair share of invented world championships, it seems to me that this little gem really does need someone to grab hold of it and make it work for their brand.
Okay, many a brand manager may not feel that these gentlemen are their ideal brand ambassadors – and it’s not right for the vast majority of brands.
But for the right one – I’m thinking the right spirit, the right hair care products, the right healthcare retailer … you can keep coming up with categories that it would work for I am sure … this is simply a sitter.
At the very least the tourist board in this little area of France (which is quite beautiful I hasten to add), should have got involved and made sure that the visiting media got outside the shed in which the event was held and had their heroes snapped to show off their tourism assets.
So I implore you, PR people of Britain, get behind the gentlemen of Wittersdorf and find a way to get your clients on the case. The European Beard and Moustache Championships need you!
